In der Anfangsszene, in der Sgt. Hartman die Rekruten beschimpft, formuliert er den Satz: „I bet you're the kind of guy that would fuck a person in the ass and not even have the goddamn common courtesy to give him a reach-around“ (etwa: „Sie sind doch garantiert diese Art von Typ, der jemanden in den Arsch fickt und dann nicht einmal das bisschen Anstand hat, demjenigen wenigstens auch einen runterzuholen!“) Regisseur Kubrick unterbrach beim Dreh dieser Aufnahme und erkundigte sich bei Ermey danach, was das letzte Wort denn bedeuten würde. Als er um dessen Bedeutung wusste, brach er in Gelächter aus und entschied, den Satz im Film zu lassen.
