Zhuang Minority
The Zhuang are a 18 million people minority who mostly lives in “Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region” in Souther China
Festivals:
-Spring Festival:
People begin to prepare for the Festival by killing pigs on the 27th December, making glutinous rice cake on the 29th. On the eve of New Year’s the Zhuang mostly eat whole-cooked rooster.
People drink sweet sticky rice wine, and eat dumplings without stuffing and cooked in a sugary soup.
After the Second Day of New Year they often visit relatives and friends. The celebration of the Spring Festival doesn’t end until the 15th of the New Year, on which the Zhuang eat sticky rice balls.
Sometimes it can be until the 30th of January
-The Third Day of March:
Years ago on Tomb-Sweeping Day the Zhuang prepared five colored eggs which were offered as a sacrifice to the tombs of their ancestors.
Nowadays it’s a singing competition on which all people bring five colored eggs and sing songs or hurry on to the singing field to compete and listen to the folk songs.
Marriage: On the wedding the bridegroom carrys the bride on the back, chopp the ladder, removing the bridge and singing competitions.
Before the wedding, a man with both parents alive is chosen to carry the bride, who must not wear shoes until she reaches the door. After some songs,the bride has to climb up the built bamboo ladder to the groom’s home, and then walk across the “new bridge”, which is made of bamboo.
At night afterwards, the groom and bride sing until dawn. The next day, the bride goes home and the groom eventually takes her back during that day or the next day. The singing continues at night for three nights, as the people compete in singing sundry songs, songs of praise and love.
Dialect:
A method of writing Zhuang based on the Wuming dialect and using a mixture of Latin and Cyrillic letters and a number of IPA symbols was devised in 1955. A reform in 1986 removed the non-Latin letters and replaced them with individual Latin letters or combinations of Latin letters.
Zhuang is a tonal language with six tones which are indicated in written Zhuang with particular letters.
Industries:
Because of all the flows The Zhuang make a lot of hydroelectricity.
They are also one of Chinas sugar producer with their sugar canes.
Geography: Guangxi is near to the Vietnam and the climate is very wettish and there are also lots of monsoons around this area.
The biggest city is Beihai with 1.5 million people
Belief:
The Zhuang believe in the power of many inanimate things in nature, such as giant trees, high mountains, cavity, the earth, the sun, water and mor things like that. Sacrifice activities are usually held because of their beliefs of being blessed by the divinity and to prevent all kinds of disasters.
Food :
The Zhuang people's primary products are tropical and subtropical crops such as rice and corn because of the mild climate . The Zhuang eat all kinds of meat.
They most like poached and pickled vegetables.
Wine is a must when they have guests. The elder person is shown respect by nobody eating before him or her.
