Hatte gerade ebend ein super Gespräch! Wir haben fast 2-3 Stunden zusammen geschrieben. Das einzige Problem war, dass mein Englisch nicht so gut war wie der von meinem Gesprächspartner, war aber kein großes Problem.

Stranger: Imagine having to read Polish from grade 7, just because you have 5% of Polish population in your country... we have about 2% Swedish speaking people here and for the reasons I don't know, we have to read compulsory Swedish.
Stranger: It's really frustrating because all the Swedes I know speak perfect English

You: Everybody can speak it and it isn't so complicated.
Stranger: If I was the dictator of this world, I would make English the primary language of every country, and the native language secondary. Yeah it's pretty simple after you get the basics.

You: But I think a language caractirizes a land.
Stranger: Hey about learning English... here in Finland we have this one radio channel which broadcasts in multiple languages, changing every hour or half hour. I can listen to NPR (USA) or BBC World (UK) from 16 to 18, it's really a good alternative for music, when you are sitting in the evening traffic.

Stranger: Oh, and Deutchse Welle, but as I told you I don't understand a word

^^ Ich hatte ebenfalls schon Gespräche mit Chinesen über dieses sensible Thema. Das ist sehr schwierig. Du hast keinen besonders geschickten Weg gewählt, denn du hast immer auf deinen Argumenten beharrt und verfolgst die simple Überzeugung, dass eine Demokratie westlichen Zuschnitts die ideale Lösung für einen äußerst komplexen Vielvölkerstaat wie China ist. Das ist definitiv nicht der Fall.

Will man sich dem Problem nähern, dann sollte man erst einmal folgendes berücksichtigen: Nie zuvor ging es China und den Chinesen so gut. Die undemokratische, unterdrückerische und in weiten Teilen korrupte Partei hat dieses Land mit beeindruckendem Erfolg modernisiert und von einem bankrotten und abgeschotteten kommunistischen Sanierungsfall zum wahrscheinlich mächtigsten Land des Planeten geformt. Für diese Entwicklung hat das Land keine 30 Jahre gebraucht.

Solche Dinge sollte man in so einem Gespräch mit einem Chinesen immer erwähnen. Das sind unwiderlegbare Fakten, die einerseits schmeicheln und andererseits zeigen, dass man sich mit dem Land beschäftigt hat und es respektiert. Häufig entwickelt sich daraus ein persönlicher Dialog, in dem man vieles weitere erfährt. Die Tiefe dieses Gesprächs ist freilich abhängig vom Gesprächspartner und dessen Sprachfertigkeiten.

Dann erst kann man beginnen, konzentriert Kritik am System zu üben. Die Chinesen sind zu Recht stolz auf das, was ihr Land in den vergangenen Jahren geleistet hat. Das sollte man immer in einem Gespräch berücksichtigen. Dennoch kennen sie die Probleme: Unterdrückung der Minderheiten und jeglicher politischer Opposition, Zensur, die Tibet-Frage, der Ärger mit Nordkorea, der schwelende Konflikt mit Taiwan, die Umweltzerstörung, die zu enge wirtschaftliche und währungspolitische Verzahnung mit dem taumelden Riesen USA, usw.

Nochmal zum zentralen Demokratieproblem: China ist ein komplexer Vielvölkerstaat, zwar dominiert von den Han-Chinesen, aber mit zahlreichen Minderheiten, die nach und nach mehr Macht und Selbstverwaltung fordern. Es gibt ein starkes Stadt-Land-Gefälle, entlegene Provinzen sind häufig unterentwickelt, während Küstennahe Metropolen prosperieren. Wenn man plötzliche eine Demokratie nach unserem Vorbild auf China loslassen würde, dann gäbe es Chaos und Unruhen. Die nationale Identität wäre bedroht und diese ist dieser ältesten Nation der Welt nach Jahrtausenden von Kriegen und insbesondere Bürgerkriegen heilig. Dies hätte auch enormen Einfluss auf die Wirtschaft: Die Welt braucht ein stabiles und geeintes China mit einem zuverlässig kontrollierten Reservoir an preiswerten Arbeitskräften.

In einer Diktatur können Entscheidungen nun einmal viel schneller gefällt werden. Es gibt kaum Streit um Mindestlöhne, mit Gewerkschaften und Umweltschützern. Dies führt im Idealfall zu einer extrem großen Flexibilität, wie in China, zum Preis der massiven Umweltzerstörung und gerade in der Vergangenheit erbärmlichen Arbeitsbedingungen.

China ist aber schon längst weiter: Mit großem Geschick hat die KP westliche Firmen zur Weitergabe von Knowhow verpflichten können. Darauf baut man nun auf und produziert Hightech. Wer in China einen BMW oder Audi kauft, erwirbt ein fast vollständig in China gefertigtes Fahrzeug, nur um ein Beispiel zu nennen.

Du siehst, man kann ein Gespräch mit China nicht immer nur auf das simple Tagesschau-Einerlei reduzieren. Es verwundert mich nicht, dass dein Gesprächspartner sich entschied, das Gespräch zu beenden.
