We've been waiting years for Level-5's Fantasy Life, but the wait may at last be coming to an end. This week's Famitsu promises a release date announcement for the game in its next issue. That issue hits next Thursday (with the information usually leaking out one day in advance).

Famitsu also has a new look at the game, so we'll hopefully get some new details later today or tomorrow.

The brief summary of Famitsu's article at Tales Source only lists information we already know: development by Brownie Brown, music from Nobuo Uematsu, image illustration from Yoshitaka Amano, support for Spot Pass, Street Pass and local play, and a release time frame for 2012.

Level-5's Fantasy Life resurfaced in Famitsu this week with a full preview and word that a release date would be announced in next week's issue.

The magazine and Famitsu.com also shared screens and details showing your main town, Kulbruk. This town has a castle, a market, a fortune tellers house, a fashion shop (where you can buy clothes for your character), and other facilities.

Where you end up in the town will depend on the "life" that you select to play as. If you select the life of a member of the royal army, you'll frequent the soldiers' residence. If you live as an artisan, you'll frequent the largest building in town, Kulbruk Studio.

Fantasy Life's world has a day-night cycle. As you play, time will progress and the day will turn to night. Kulbruk will transform accordingly, with homes lit up and smelling of dinner, and special shops that can only be accessed at night. You'll also meet certain people only at night.

Speaking of Level-5 and open world games, while it may not have an "epic" feel Fantasy Life from Brownie Brown is essentially an open world RPG. You start the game by picking a job and Level-5 included everyday occupations like postman and street entertainer. Players can also opt for a traditional RPG class like hunter or mercenary.

Pick Kingdom Soldier and your job will be keeping peace and harmony in the village. Soldiers have to chase criminals, defeat monsters, and protect the village.

Wizards specialize in magic. They can create fireballs and heal friendly characters. It looks like Fantasy Life doesn’t differentiate between white and black mages. Each job has a different mentor and if you pick this job a black cat named Krome teaches you the ways of the wizard.

Hunters are one with nature and can attack enemies from afar using a bow. These guys can also gather fruits and vegetables on the field and bring them back to town.

Mercenaries don’t belong to any country. They travel from place to place as a hired sword looking for their next job. Mercenaries live life without ties.

Fantasy Life is slated for release this December for Nintendo 3DS.

-Outside of the city is The Great Paateru Plain. Many areas/locations in the field (beach, river, forrest). "Monsters" appear and can be fought - include sheep, bulls, wolves and dragons.
-More than one town.
-Dungeons and locations with strong story connections.

Other things I missed (?):
-You start off in the Imperial Capital, Kuruburuku.
-Male/Female costumes for each life are different.
-You can change you 'Life' during the game.

Aside from the online mode, the paid DLC will add a new quest to the game and increase the characters' level cap. Level-5 promises that more content will be coming in the future.

The company hasn't released details like pricing or a release date for the DLC.
To further clarify my previous point, they also confirm that aside from adding new quests in this paid update, there will also be changes to the game world. Definitely a mini-expansion.
