Opening NAT with NETCologne (English help) :P

Hi guys!

I am sorry but I am not very good with German. So I hope you wont mind if I use English.

I am new in Germany and a few hours ago I´ve got my new internet connection with NetCologne. Its working fine so fine but when I am trying to connect to xbox live I am getting a message that my NAT is moderate.

Does anyone could give me a hand to leave this thing open? I am not a big expert

By the way, does Germany has it is own Xbox Live? If not, which region are playing in?

The moderate nat isn't that problematic as it sounds, it only could happen that you cant talk to (or play with) some players with a closed nat.
I'm playing with an moderate nat too and i dont have any problems...

I cant tell you how exactly you open the nat but normally you have to type in the ip-adress of your router in the browser (firefox..), than you get to the configuration program of your router,... i think this should be the same way at every router, provider and so on...
maybe this will help you a little more than my (not complete) explanation.

Its the first time that I really need to change the NAT. I have been trying to play NBA2K11 and I am not able to find a single person to play with . I went to the 2K forums and I was reading that I gotta change this thing in order to play the game online.

I have also tried to use the modem settings, but they were all in German so I was a bit confused .

Your English was perfect, I am the one that should be sorry cause I am not able to speak German well yet!

Just wondering... As far as I know if I am connecting my xbox directly to the modem I should be getting an OPEN NAT, right? At least, it is what Ive heard.

Cause this is how I am connecting my xbox and laptop (both directly to the modem).

thats right. the reason is, a modem has not a firewall like a router. but this may can't be the solution.


edit: ah. you say, you have connected xbox and laptop to the modem. both at the same time? then you have a router (with an integrated modem), not a seperate/single modem. modems can only have one device connected at the same time, and only modems have an open NAT from the beginning.

as stabel said, you need to tell us the name of your router. without the name we can't help you correctly.

Yes, both at the same time. And the modem/router has 4 slots, so I guess you are right.

so you have a modem+router.

does your xbox have a static IP?
do you have a NAT configuration page on your router (accessible usually using your browser) and forwarded all relevant ports to your xbox (which needs a static IP)?

I have another question. What`s Firewall einschalten? While I was opening the ports I have seen that option in the router. Should it be on or off?

It's probably enabled otherwise you wouldn't have a moderate NAT on your xbox
Your firewall should always be enabled if you don't like hackers/trojan horses etc. on your PC.
