Atwood: No. Anytime you announce a new name you’re going to get a lot of questions and the whys. If you look at what TiVo did or Virgin Airline for instance, a sort of tie in for example. Those names have become household names and it had nothing to do with that at all. We wanted a name that represented the fact that this system was really for everyone to play. And Wii, the word, is W-i-i, and the two I’s represent both people and the controllers. So, it’s really not about this sort of tongue in cheek.
So .. was ist am amerikanischen Sprachgebrauch bzw. dem "it sounds like" nun verkehrt hm?
Wii die Konsole heißt wissen wir wohl ebensogut wie du auch. ;p
Komisch das sich immer die vermeintlichen "Nicht-Fanboys" am meisten über Verballhornungen wie Drexbox, Paystation oder wie in dem Fall halt Wee aufregen. Dabei entspricht es bei BigNs Kiste sogar der amerikanischen Aussprache.
Komisch auch das sich niemand groß beschwerte als Sony anno dazumals mal eine Anti-Saturn Werbung schaltete mit folgendem Slogan "If you buy a Saturn your Head is in Uranus" Was frei gelesen auch nur heißt "Wenn du nen Saturn kaufst ist dein Kopf im Ar..." (is in ur anus).
Da ist der direkte Vergleich mit dem phonetisch gleichlauteten Wort für Kinderpipi wohl eher belustigend. Man sollte nur nicht gleich selbiges in den Augen haben
